I sent a letter to The Star this morning and as below is an exact copy.
Attention : The Star Publications
Subject : Daniel Lee's Pirated Albums
On behalf of : The Pinkies, DFC Members.
Piracy has been a major problem in Malaysia for years now. There has been alot of different types of piracy but I would personally like to specify on pirated albums. As we all generally know, albums are hardwork done by artists. Hence, as a token of gratitude shouldnt we start supporting original albums as well? I am not blaming this on the pasar malam "ah beng's" who now spread piracy. Instead, I am deeply annoyred by citizens who keeps supporting piracy by buying them.
For example, our very own Malaysian Idol Lee just launched his debut album on the 22nd of November. Yet, we are already seeing his pirated CDs everywhere. How could this happen so almost instantly barely a week before his CD is out? Without a doubt, it is known nationwide that he won with 1.2 million votes. Shouldnt we take more action on this?
Why? What does 1.2 million votes show u ask? I shall tell you what it is. Being voted Malaysian Idol isnt an easy task. He is Daniel Lee Chee Hun, our idol. We as fans have learnt so much from him. From caring to sharing and from lacking of confidence to boosting of confidence. He has thought us by different angles. Not externally or internally, its magical. So many critics claim his votes are fake and us, girls vote 100 votes each. Now, LOOK.
8000 albums in FOUR DAYS.
All he need is naother 2k more to reach his target. No, I am not saying we as fans are being cowards whose afriad hes album wouldnt reach the target set. No. Even if 20k albums have been sold over exceeding his target, we would still be very, very upset about it.
Support original albums. PLEASE!
Daniel works so hard, restlessly for weeks. Yet, because of cost saving issues some people rather save the few ringgit?! The album is only ranging from RM 32-35 (depending on stores). Hence, this shall not continue in our circle of music. He works hard producing, WE WORK HARD BUYING ORIGINAL WISE!
To some pathetic citizens who claim, "aiya i not really fan wan..pirated can la, listen fun only". PLEASE WAKE UP. You are not saving cost. Instead, you are supporting the "dark side". Daniel is our idol voted by US. He is an Idol with only "thank-you"'s and "sorry" in his vocabulary. THERE ISNT A REASON TO NOT SUPPORT HIS ORIGINAL ALBUM!
Last but not least, I am writing in wish of The Star to write an article on piracy. Specifically, Daniel. It is seriously getting into our nerves and this is heartbreaking to see our Daniel loose so many albums to piracy.
Afterall, we should support Daniel because he is the first artist to produce a multilangual album. Hence, we should keep supporting his original album.
