i don't think it's about being formal, but more of trying at least to some extent, to watch out for our grammar and spelling. no short forms and weird TyPiNg LiKe DiS.. and short forms that are just too hard to understand. too many oso, tht whr.. and what nots, it really gets very annoying. sure we're malaysians, and should be proud of our lahs and all, but there's a fine line somewhere...^^

the using of proper english is not bad, but the reason we are foruming here is for the fun. but sometimes i dont understand some of the shortcuts... sometimes i also accidentally wrote some shortcuts into my essay(haih, have to cancel n write again) so its up to you whether you want to use proper english or not p.s. no offence ok

I changed my short form habits a few months ago and had lots of fun typing full form, cuz I love typing. At first it was just for fun, eventually it turned into a habit. ;D Sometimes it DOES kill the mood like what idolhunter said.. but sometimes you can, like, change a bit or something, like.. OMG OMG OMG he's so cute. Or.. Oh no I'm going to h*ll this time! (This is the only expression I can use to describe that "tense" moment ;D Anyone have any other suggestions for this?) Hmm, kinda weird, especially the first one. ^_____^;; Make the grammar as perfect as possible.

actually i quite agree with what nicky said, well, using proper english, sometimes, actually do make us in trouble, especially for those who had already normal with the using of shortcuts. using proper english is also a good way to practise us what. what don't we just have a try? if you think that this will be a problem, you can try other way to get it. habit is just a thing that you have normal with it. by the way, actually you can change it. i am sure, most of you guys did have this kind of problem before, lots of shortcuts in essays. well, sometimes i did too. that's why trying to use a bit of proper english, is also a good way to remind us not to use too much of shortcuts, especially in essays. maybe some words like wat, u , i , n are just alright, but too much of shortcuts will just too annoying. TyPe LiKe DiS is another "style" of malaysians.that's the "style" that i think most of all hate it. haha. let's see, "rojak" language actually do have the expression u would like to show. but for me, as long as it's not too over, than it'll be just okay. just like someone said, maybe one day, daniel will be known to international, this forum will be viewing form all over the world, i guess they won't be understanding our language? ;D but, if the "rojak" language really shows what you are trying to say, just go ahead. but remember, something nice if it's too much, it'll be over. **message written down it's just my own opinion, i think anything suggested at here, wouldn't be too offend, as we like our idol, we don't hope he will be angry too. right?**

hmm after reading the previous responses... i would like to make one thinmg clear... I'm not against using "mah's and Lah's" but as someone said there is a fine line between freedom of expression and overdoing it... TyPiNg LiKe DiS i absolutely dispise in fact this one i hope it will become a nono on this forum because only one word can describe it... annoying... and again IMHO typing using full english does not spoil the mood... and when i say using full english i don't mean that we can't use "mahs and lahs" i mean the short cuts... like tt,wtv,tis,dis,tht,den, etc... For me I don't insert short forms into my essays^^;; maybe due to the fact i usually type in full except when i'm in a chat room.(not to be perasan pulak^^;
