Best-Selling Chinese Artistes in Malaysia (2005) - China Press (23/1/06)
Jay Chou is the Best Selling Artiste in Malaysia averaging 40,000 copies per album. Other notable artistes with more than 25,000 copies of album sold are Guang Liang , Wang Lee Hom, David Tao, Leo Ku and S.H.E. J.J. Lim and Jolin Tsai followed closely behind with more than 20,000 copies of album sold. Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan could only manage to surpass the 10,000 mark.
Though the pre-audited sales figures were provided by the recording companies/labels, it did give us a brief insight on the album sales by various artistes. Please note that the albums of avarious artistes were released at different date. Some of the albums are still selling like hot cakes whereas some may have been shelved by now.
As a new artiste, Daniel is doing remarkably well. We hope his album sales will continue to scale new height in the months to come.
China Press did compile some interesting statistic on album sales and a commentary on local album sales in the tables and article below. Enjoy reading.

Guang Liang~{!/~}s <<Tong Hua>> , Real Hot (Translation)
Dubbed as Malaysia's "National Treasure", Guang Liang's <<Tong Hua>> album tops the Best Selling List due to "Tian Shi, Di Li, Ren He" . (meaning a combination of favorable heavenly, earthly and humanly factors). It sold 25,000 copies in Malaysia alone. This helps to reaffirm Guang Liang as Best Selling King.
Due to contractual dispute with his recording label last year, there was initial doubt as to how Guang Liang would fare in album sales. Unexpectedly, his hit song <<Tong Hua>> from <<Tong Hua>> album helps to bring the album back from death. Though there is still a gap in album sales between him and Jay Chou , his album managed to hit Platinum due to its popularity. The same album is said to be selling very well in China, with a million copies sold so far.
Followed closely behind are Penny Tai and "Ren Qi Bao Deng" (meaning so hot until bulb bursts or hugely popular) "Malaysian Idol" Lee Chee Hun, who not only hits good album sales but also has his popularity on the rise too.
It is puzzling to note that another popular idol, Nicholas Teo's recording label did not join in the album warfare for his debut album <<First Choice>> on ground that the Taiwan's edition is an EP. As such, he missed the chance to go up against the music industry up and coming challenger, Lee Chee Hun.
Other "self-financed" artistes like Nick Chung, Yang Wei Han, Xin Wei Lian, Li Sheng Ping had manged to achieve respectable album sales at a few thousands copies without relying on the weak album distribution network. This is an encouraging sign. Nick Chung dubbed as "Prince of East Malaysia" was working hard on his promo tours especially in Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintagor to achieve the desirable result.
Two established local companies, Wee Yang Entertainment and New Southern Records with similar sales strategy have a chance to face up to each other. Veteran singers like Yang Xiao Ping, Qin Yong, Lee Yang Ping, Lim Shu Juan had sold more than 10,000 copies of records in the Golden Hits series. Though the results are quite surprising, they also go to prove that "Old Ginger is spicier"
