Pinkies, there's another article on piracy in today's Star !! sent by someone from Taiping if i'm not wrong. =) Here's the article published in The Star (7th Dec): Help local artistes, reject pirated items
REFERRING to the article “Pirates hit Mawi where it hurts” (The Star, Dec 4), it is definitely heartbreaking to see one's own hard work being manipulated by irresponsible people.
Another artiste facing the same problem is Malaysian Idol 2 Daniel Lee, whose album was released on Nov 22.
The pirated CDs were available as soon as the album was released.
Both Mawi and Daniel had worked hard to produce their albums.
It will be a shame if both of them cannot succeed in the music industry.
I would like to urge the public to say 'no' to pirated goods.
SS YEAM, Taiping. (via email) (source: thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2005/12/7/focus/12785425&sec=focus)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was my original posting: What we need is enforcement!
Referring to the article “Pirates hit Mawi where it hurts” (The Star, 4 Dec), it is definitely heartbreaking to see your own hard work being manipulated by irresponsible people. Another artist facing the same issue is Malaysian Idol 2, Daniel Lee, who’s album was released on 22 Nov. The pirate CDs were already available as soon as the album was released. What is the authority doing? There was once somewhere in last year when the authority actively went out to stop pirates.
I happened to visit one of the night market in KL and I saw a board written by the local authority; “Dilarang menjual VCD/CD haram. Denda RM XXX” and there was one stall selling pirated VCDs/CDs right in front of the board! The law is there but there is obviously no enforcement.
Both Mawi and Daniel had work hard, having to scarify their sleeps to produce their albums. Now these pirates are earning easy money from the artists’ hard work. It will be a shamed if both of them cannot succeed in the music industry because they are chosen by us, Malaysian, through SMSs.
I’ll like to urge the public to support original and say NO to pirates. Put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel when you are attacked by pirates? Besides, I hope the local authority will start to combat this illegal act.

first, i would like to apologise for not realising this thread earlier, i'll be writing letters tonight to the chinese press. Also, before we try and make the press and nation realise that buying pirated cds are being unfair, we should try and convince our family and friends that 'buying pirated cds are not such a good idea after all", but i really do not mean that u should argue or fight with ur parents of this issue, because cds nowadays are very expensive.Im very lucky because my parents never allow me to buy pirated cds, i thank god for evry other parent who does the same to their child, but please do not forget that there all other parents or working adults who still does not see the importance of buying original cds instead of pirated ones after reading your articles. For example, my aunt saw L.L's article in the star newspaper and showed it to me, after she told me to read it, she said:"girl, please dont do something like this girl did, nobody would care about her, i tel u",although i didnt write that article, i felt so hurt after she said that, and i didnt dare to pick a fight so all i said was:"yee, you should not say that lah,and u should not be the person who's buying that cd."and i walked away. So, you see, what we're doing here is not enough, i dont know if anybody would actually consider my suggestion but, i think that we should try and convince our family and friends to consider out articles as well, we could also ask support from them like"dad, mum, im going to do this and i hope u all will not disagree." I think most of our parents will be proud of us for this. But at the meantime, when we still do not have d power to do anything, we will still have to continue writing letters. to sevelynn and all who wrote letters , keep up the good work, thank you so much for representing the pinkies.

Honestly speaking, i was a huge 'fan' of piracy, not only on vcd, also in other things like bag, clothes, watches... because u see my avatar also u know la --> Nike... I couldn't afford to buy all nike products, the original ones are so nice but cost me like hundreds and thousands to make a collection... so i choose the easy way out --> piracy... Then slowly i realize that the quality is not good, and spoil easily... now, i quit buying pirated goods... support original!!! Yahoo!!! Ok, enough of myself... OT so much liao... Anyway! Hey, where are all you pinkies punya articles? I wanna read larrr.... ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) Just wanna say a big shoutout to ALLLLLL pinkies who wrote in... cuz i sent PM to a few of u encouraging u guys to write right? Really touched and happy to see the response... nyah ha ha!

Parents, dun encourage your children on pirated goods
It had became clear to me that youngsters are not only the one who had been making pirated cds unable to control but the parents are also involved. In order to save money, parents are encouraging their children on buying piracy goods rather than original and thus resulting the un-controllable piracy selling in almost everywhere in Malaysia.
I understand that money is hard to earn and spending almost 50 ringgit on ten songs is just simply ridiculous. But since they know that money is hard to earn, shouldn't it be applied to the artists as well? By supporting piracy, they are ignoring the hard work and time contributed by the artist as well as the workers of the company. I think it is unfair that we get to save money by buying pirated cds yet ignoring the fact that we may be causing others to suffer.
I am writting this e-mail because many of us (the pinkies) had noticed that Daniel's pirated albums are selling everywhere. And if we don't do our part to stop it, lesser and lesser people are going to support his original album and soon, Daniel won't have the money to continue his carieer in music anymore. This is really sad and disappointing because it's us Malaysians that had given him this chance to reach his dreams. But in the end, we will also be the one that took it away from him.
Parents, please understand the difficulty in earning money not only to you, but to others as well. Let us not sacrifice other people's hard work for the benefit of ourselves. Do not support piracy. And most importently, DO NOT encourage your children, niece or whoever in buying piracy. Together, we can stop this wrong doing in Malaysia.
(Huei Ling, Petaling Jaya)
